Commandos - Advanced Infantry Specialisation“Testing” session of inter-outfit commandos this Friday 10/10 at 7h30 BST / 8h30 CEST
The following text should answer most questions but we are ready to answer any other players would have, suggestions are also always welcome.
Who Are The Commandos? The commandos is an inter-outfit group created to offer a high level of organization between players sharing the same interest of more intense infantry team-work in a very squad. Using stricter communications and coordination to achieve a gaming experience that would usually not be possible. The Commandos are a rapid-response infantry unit that can be called up to hold or take key objectives and positions using highly coordinated tactics to overcome superior numbers. The Commandos need to be able to adapt at a moments notice to counter changes in the enemies tactics.
Who Can joinPlayers can join no matter their battle rank, kill/death ratio or even score/minute ; however they must be able to observe the communications, remain calm in the most intense battle or wait in position just in case the enemy makes a move. They must also have some understanding of the Squad Lead position, if not some experience.
If you doubt your own skills and feel you need to improve yourself, you are probably going to be a good commando, given Dunning and Kruger’s studies.
We probably will be a small group and would like to keep it that way at first, we’ll therefore limit the commandos to the 12 first players to attend. You can sign up on this thread that we’ll verify daily if we have access to it or get the informations from your ambassador if we don’t, or you can also directly sign up on this thread :
trailblazers.boards.net/thread/107/commando-recruitment?page=1&scrollTo=550You aren’t expected to join other commandos events once you sign up but you will be warned of the other ones as they are planned a few days earlier so you have priority to sign up for them.
What To Expect?Being the very first Commandos Squad in collaboration with other outfits, the applied tactics will remain limited so everybody can get used to the system before going any deeper. Nevermind the outfit, everybody in the squad is equal, can lead or be put to any task depending on the situation.
Players will mostly be playing favorite class as they are obviously better with it, still, volunteers for given functions will be requested if some class is lacking to applied a given tactic.
It’ll probably be the first time for a few of the attendees and even with the gaming level of the implied outfits, communication and coordination mistakes are bound to happen, don’t expect perfection on the first try.
This first session will be the commandos on their own, not supporting a given platoon but the biggest battles will still be aimed for in order to experience more intense fights. Our focus won’t be to kill a lot of enemies or complete objectives ourselves, thought it might be achieved in the process, but rather to allow the faction to complete the objectives and remain alive so we can keep the TR from losing any progress if the enemy counter-attack.
CommunicationsFirst of all, push-to-talk is mandatory.
Commandos come from different places and don’t know each other, make sure you use your squad number instead of your game tag. Also refer to yourself in third person. When you are spotting, don’t forget to locate the target with cardinal points. Keep even important communications as small as possible, 2 words is often enough to communicate an incoming attack.
Try not to over communicate and don’t repeat a communication.
There are 3 stages in the action :
In battle : There is no real danger but we are already fighting, keep the communications focused on the game and feel free to report on ts any threat you cannot just spot with game mechanics or requests that cannot be made in game.
During engagement : the commando is assaulting the enemy or the other way around, the communication should remain to the strict minimum so everybody can focus on the fight and the leader must restrain himself from giving new orders until it’s over ; some critical informations might still make exceptions.
Between battles : during base cleaning or transport, soldiers can chill out and chat freely until a threat is spotted or the leader explain the next operation.
Don’t warn of your death unless you were a key unit like a max or a medic, or were sent apart to scout or hack. If the situation allows it, feel free to point out other opportunities to the leader, but don’t debate orders.
The TS used for this event will be shared with players who signed up for it.
Coordination :Unless you have a specific task like hacking or scouting, you should always move with your squad/fire team but try to keep a little space between each others if possible so only one person get hit by the blast of weapons and you don’t get in each others’ line of sight. Don’t rush to assault, either you run to cover or you have your weapon ready.
Most weapons of our faction have good fire rates, we can easily cover the progression of our allies never mind our class, so if you are not at the front of the squad, keep an eye on windows and elevations for enemies that could take out the commandos charging.
The core of a squad are the medics and one engineer, those should remain protected by the other commandos and should not expose themselves. In the same logic, don’t run out of a building, you’ll just expose the medic who’ll try to get you back up.
The Squad Lead :Only the volunteer will have to lead an operation, but once the attack has begun, it can change often. For example, if the previous SL died and need somebody who can see the fight to monitor it right away, he doesn’t have to ask for the agreement, just warn of the change and give the squad lead to the said commando. Sometimes too, the leading commando will ask another commando to take the Squad Lead to place a squad beacon even if he keeps commanding the operation.
At the end of an operation, the commando with the Squad Lead can either plan the next operation or request a volunteer to take care of it. Be sure to explain the strategy before the commandos enter the next fight however.
Tactics :As said above, we’ll only use the bare minimum like Galaxy dropping, assault with MAXes, smokes and creating nomanslands.
Required equipment :We don’t want players who just give it a try to force themselves in buying anything so the following equipment are just a plus for the commandos :
maxed meditool
revive grenade
maxed repairtool
darklight
NV scope (you’ll be warned before an operation if you need to equip it)
squad beacon
anti-air and anti-tank rocket launchers
After the event :You are invited to make requests, comments and suggestions to improve the team on thread only commandos will have access to on
trailblazers.boards.net/ as communications and tactics will certainly need a constant improvement. You are also free to join the organization of future commando events if you so desire.
Every commando too should try to work on his weaknesses but no criticism will be made unless the said commando requests it.
In the future, if tactics are perfected and tested, we could also make them public and maybe inspire some other players.
